  • Mermaids in transition Maritime Museum of Barcelona

Mermaids in transition Maritime Museum of Barcelona

The fascinating imaginary of mermaids from an LGTBIQ+ perspective is the central point of this exhibition programmed by the Maritime Museum of Barcelona. Through the studies of art historian Sacha Coward, this exhibition explains why mermaids are such powerful symbols for the LGBTIQ+ community. Aspects such as their hybridity, their voice and strength, the magical powers they possess, or their relationship with sexual and gender fluidity make this mythological being an endless source of iconic resources. The exhibition opens on June 28, to commemorate LGBTIQ+ Pride Day, and is part of the program L'Orgullosa, which includes exhibitions in seven museums in the city to promote the rights and visibility of the LGBTIQ+ community.
